Training
-
We are involved in training teachers, parents, catechists
and leaders in the Catholic Social Teaching (CST),
in six parishes of the 19 dioceses of Uganda.
- Designing short booklets on the CST for parents
and catechists.
- Designing a Manual on ethical values (cultural,
social and religious) for S.S.S. teachers, in collaboration
with the Ministry of Education and Sports.
- Planning meetings with teachers, together with the
Ministry of Education, to present the new manual on
ethical education, hopefully as part of the curriculum.
Research
-
We have carried out the second research on the cost
of living in some of the ten slums of Kampala: Kampala Basic Needs
Basket (KBNB).
- A research on the trafficking of minors in Kampala.
- We held a third Traditional Wisdom workshop
to gather from the cultural representatives of all
the main ethnic groups in Uganda their stories, proverbs,
songs and other materials to deal with issues of justice,
reconciliation and peace building issues in their
own cultures.
Advocacy
-
The launchings of KBNB in each of the slums and the major ones to
be launched by the Minister of Lands and Urban Development early
October 2009. All in view of influencing policy makers.
- Publications by the staff of articles in the Daily Monitor
newspaper.
- Open Forums for selected leaders groups on critical
social issues.
- Radio programs on the CST and the currents events
in Advent and Lent.
- Networking for lobbying with many NGO and JP groups.
ANNOUNCEMENTS

The ethical-civic education manual will soon be published.
- Booklet:
Kampala Basic Needs Basket, on the Relevance of the African
Synod to Uganda and the Calendar of 2010 are available at
JPIIJPC and at St Paul’s bookshops.
- John Paul II Justice and Peace Centre is being registered
as a legal entity.
- The building of JPIIJPC premises is in progress.
- We shall broadcast on Radio Maria a program
called: The Social Gospel, every Sunday of Advent
from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
- There was a conference on Sustainable Justice, Peace and Reconciliation
organised by the Inter-Religious Council of Churches and convened by
the Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga from 10-12 Sept. 09.
